What I Ate Wednesday #3: Juice Feast



Nothing but juice for a whole day.


Am I crazy?


Wait till you see the colour.



Yup. It’s GREEN


I decided after reading Kris Carr’s Crazy Sexy Diet that I would try a one-day juice ‘feast’. Nothing but green, alkaline juice for a whole day. I really wasn’t sure I could do it–I am a baker to the core, after all. Could I stay away from the stove for a whole day?


As it turns out, yes. I can. And I’ve decided to try doing it once a week since reading the book. 


I could tell you everything that’s in the book but not only would that make a very long post, it also wouldn’t be very respectful to Kris, so check out her website and if you can, do read her book, it will change your life! (No, seriously–it will.)


8am Water with lemon

I am not a huge fan of acid citrus fruits, so I put a slice of lemon in hot water with a teaspoon of maple syrup. You can also add a pinch of cayenne if you like, but I find the taste of it unpleasant with the lemon flavour. 



9am Green Juice

12pm More Green Juice!



3pm Orange (coloured) Juice

No, not made with oranges, but carrots. Recipe here. It isn’t green juice, and there’s a reason for that: this is only my second 24h juice feast and I want to ease into it. Someday, perhaps, I’ll be a hardcore green juicer. But for now, I’m happy tasting all the colours of the rainbow.


6pm Carrot Juice, again



7pm Banana Avocado Almond Shake

The Princess Bride on telly!





This is to ease out of the fast. It’s still liquid but this time it contains fiber, so it’s gentle enough on my stomach to break the fast. 


half an avocado
half a banana
a massive handful of spinach
200ml almond milk


Stick in the blender and blend!


The end of the day is always hardest for me. It’s when I usually have a really yummy, cooked, comforting dinner in front of the telly or with a good book–it’s my reward for doing well all day, so to speak. Dinner marks the end of labour and the start of evening relaxation. I can’t do any coursework or workouts or anything that requires a lot of effort after dinner–sometimes even doing the dishes is too much. I leave it till the next day and enjoy my evening. But if you’re trying out the juice feast, pull through it! The results are worth it, I promise 🙂
